Thanks for joining Jerry

If you're reading this blog, you are here because you know Jerry and his need for a bone marrow transplant. At this point, we don't know the exact date of the procedure, but it will definitely be this spring. Anthony, Jerry's older brother, and I (his much, much younger sister) are both matches (how great is that), and the people at Duke Medical are trying to figure out which one of us is the best fit for Jerry. Thanks for supporting him and the whole family. Feel free to leave him messages. At some point, he will be in isolation for a while so I'm sure the blog will be a good distraction and a good way to keep in touch. We are in the process of compiling a website. Go to joinjerry2010.com.

  1. I'm the much, much younger friend of the much, much younger sister. I can't wait to leave you inspirational words from Shakespeare during your Duke stay, Jerry. I won't stop until you get better. I figure that's added incentive to get you up and outta there... sorta like when the FBI played nonstop Debbie Boone music to the Branch Davidians! (Shakespeare lights up my life...)

  3. I'm another friend of the much much younger sister, and I know that if Jerry gets his sister's bone marrow, he'll be getting really good "stuff."
Anyone who has Vinnie on his side has a dynamo, a true force of nature, working on his behalf. If I were in Jerry's position, I'd certainly feel better knowing Vinnie had my back.

  4. I'm also the daughter of the very young, attractive sister and I would like to say the Senatore kids are made of tough stuff and cancer seriously doesn't have a chance. Between my mom's craziness and Uncle's bad-assnes (yes that is a word vinnie queen of grammar) i expect a full recovery within weeks.

My Uncle Jerry is the only person i know who lifts and works out while going through chemo therapy! And not only that, during treatment he STILL lifts more than any of the guys on my Division I college swim team!

Uncle Jerry, you are the coolest adult i know, and I completely agree with Michelle that you need to recover asap and come party with us at gtown! I bet that you can do a keg stand longer than any one on campus!

Mom, you may my little but are a force to recon with. You are truly the strongest person i know. That is some quality bone marrow. No joke.

SUCK THE MARROW OUT OF LIFE!!

  6. I will write in Italian because in english I can't express well...

p.s. Vinnie you are the best sister, mother, aunt ever love you.

  8. All, Thank you so much for joining JoinJerry. But I must warn you, my sister is crazy. She has demonstrated this often. Now, she appears to have forgetten the order of our birth!

I feel great. Still doing treatments, still working out and still drinking beer. Looks like I'll be at Duke Medical Center sometime in June. They wanted to do it sooner, but I was busy :-] Thanks again, it's great having you with me!

  10. Hey Jerry, Remember me, one of your sister's very best friends since high school - I was Patty A. back then. Just want to let you know that you and your family are on my mind, and I am sending positive thoughts your way. I enjoyed looking at your photos on the website; you have such a beautiful family. And a special thank you for serving our country!

Vinnie, I am so proud of you!

    Be Well, Jerry!

I know Grandma and Grandpa in Heaven are here with you and guiding you. Even though we are physically far apart...we are family and we will always be there for you to help and support you. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  13. Hey Jerry - I'm a little late getting on board the blog cause I'm a little technically challenged...but I finally figured out how to do it today! Altho we've never met, I feel like I know you, Vinnie's precious little brother whom she loves fiercely and will do ANYTHING to protect. Strange thing to say to a man who seems to be constantly living life to the fullest! I've been following your progress through my dear friend Vincenza, your (very young, beautiful & compassionate!) sister, over the past months. It is clearly evident that you are loved by SO many and supported by multitudes of an extended personal network. I'm proud to add myself among those people. There's no doubt in my mind that you are going to beat this thing - especially with the love and support of your family and most importantly, with Vinnie spearheading the efforts. All our thoughts and prayers are will you, of course. Love ya, Neets

  14. Hey, Uncle Jerry.
You know, I'm considering buying a truckload of those T-shirts from my pocket, but that wouldn't sit well with my parents (or my closet). Instead, I'm bringing out the salesman I inherited from my dad to get that truckload on the backs of Spartans everywhere (or, as far as Sparta goes).

I love you so much, Uncle Jerry, and I know that this is just another bump in the road for someone as strong as you are, even if your mind is tricking you into thinking it's more than that. You're loved by so many people, which would be proven if everyone was as tech-savvy as myself. <3
Don't give up. Stay strong. Be relentless.

    Love,
Your favorite niece (DON'T say Rachael!)

  15. Jerry,
I drove across the country with your sister Vinnie in 1972. Tell her I said, "Hi." Heard about this on facebook. Stay positive and Get Well Soon!

  18. Jerry,
You are in the thoughts and prayers of your brother Knights of Columbus Council 10852 at St Matthew. You have been a shining example to us and we all pray for your quick and successful recovery. I have been a bone marrow volunteer for years and pray I someday can help save someone's life. I know how proud your brother and sister are to be matches allowing them to help you.
God bless you and I can't wait to receive and wear my "Be Relentless" t-shirt". Looking forward to seeing you at a future Knights meeting in the near future.
    Ed Craig
